Rayond Parr of Bertrand dies
Funeral services for Raymond Arthur Parr, 72, of Bertrand were held Wednesday,
July 3 at 2 p.m., in the McMikle Chapel. The Rev. Robert Burke, pastor of the
United Methodist Church of Bertrand, officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Parr died Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Host House in Charleston after
an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1902, in Union Town, Ky, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George
Parr. He had lived in Mississippi County since a small child where he was engaged
in farming until ill health forced his retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bertrand. On Dec. 11, 1920,
he was marred to Sue Murphy who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Charles and George Parr, both of Bertrand, six
daughters, Mrs Artherline Dykes of Sikeston; Mrs. Pauline Heckert, Mrs. Patsy
Wise. Mrs Betty Jane McKinley, Mrs. Peggy Bearden and Mrs. Nancy Chappell, all
of Bertrand; one half-brother, Jesse Rayburn of East Prairie; one sister Mrs.
Maggie Gregory of East Prairie; and one half-sister, Mrs. Nellie Gaines of Wyatt;
29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death.
