SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PIONEER DIED TODAY

Charles C. Krauss, pioneer farmer of Mississippi county,
passed away at his home on Matthews avenue this morning at
8:30 o'clock following a long illness of a complication of
diseases.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene
Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with his pastor, Rev. C. F.
Transue, in charge. Interment will be made in Oak Grove
cemetery with Dempster service.
Charles Christopher Krauss was born in New Orleans, La., on
January 8, 1863. At the age of eight months he moved with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Charles Krauss, to St. Louis, where
the family resided for 12 years. The senior Mr. Krauss was a
ship carpenter in St. Louis. After trading three brick houses and
lots in St. Louis for 240 acres of land in Mississippi county, Mr.
Kraus built a flat boat and in 1875 with his wife and seven chil-
dren sailed down the Mississippi river from St. Louis and landed
south of Bird's Point. In addition to his family the senior Krauss
had on the boat a horse and wagon, a Swiss milch goat, a dog, 48
hens and several ducks and geese.
The family began farming operations in Mississippi county in
1875 and was among the pioneer settlers there.
On March 6, 1890, Mr. Krauss was united in marriage to Miss
Fanny Overton of Bird's Point. To this union seven children
were born, four of whom survive. They are Mrs. Susie Ogborn
of near Anniston, John Krauss of near East Prairie, Mrs. Myrtle
Barber of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Garrett of near East
Prairie. A son, Fred Krauss, of the llth Infantry, was killed in the
World War during the Battle of the Argonne. Ivy and Charles
Overton Krauss died in early youth.
After leaving Mississippi county, Mr. and Mrs. Krauss lived
for a while, at Mountain View, Mo. For the past six years this
fine old couple have resided in Sikeston in their home on
Matthews avenue. They were active in the affairs of the Church
of the Nazarene, Mr. Krauss having been one of the trustees.
He was a Christian gentleman and his integrity and loyalty to
his friends was beyond question. Mr. Krauss was a splendid
neighbor and was always ready and willing to help those less
fortunate than himself.
Beside the widow and children, one sister, Mrs. Lena Cusick
of Hope, Ark., two brothers, Wm. Krauss of Bertrand and Fred
Krauss of Dallas, Texas, also survive.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Milton, Hugh,
Ermil, Raphael, and Mafalda Ogborn of near Anniston, and
Maxine and Billy Garrett of near East Prairie.

He was buried in IOOF Cemetery, Charleston, Mississippi Co., MO. Moved from New Orleans to St. Louis, MO at 8 months (Sept. 1863). In 1875 father John Charles Krauss moved the family down river on a flat boat to Bird's Point, MO. Lived in Mountain View, MO ?-1928; in Sikeston, MO 1928-1934 on Matthews Avenue.

LIFELONG RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES TUESDAY
Mrs. Fanny Elizabeth Krauss, aged 76 years, died Tuesday 9:15 a.m. at the State Hospital in Farmington following a three month illness due to infirmities of age. She had been a patient at the hospital since September 28th. She was born July 6, 1870 at Birds Point and had been a resident of this county. One year ago she moved to this city to make her home. Her husband Charles C. Krauss, died July 19, 1934.
She leaves a son John C. Krauss of East Prairie Route 1; three daughters, Mrs. Susie Ogborn of this city, Mrs. Myrtle Barber of Hialeath (sic), Fla., and Mrs. Helen Garrett of East Prairie; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral sevvices were conducted this (Thursday) with the Rev. Harry McElrath, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

An Old Resident of Miss. Co. Passes Away
Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Krauss, age 76 years, passed away Oct. 15th, at 9:15, due to infirmities of old age. She was born July 6th, 1870, near Bird's Point, Mo., the daughter of the late Richard Overton and his wife, the late Caroline (Beckwith) Overton. Her husband preceded her in death 12 years ago. The late Charles C. Krauss having died July 19th, 1934. She was a member of the Nazarene Church. Besides leaving a host of friends to mourn her death, she leaves one son and three daughters, John C. Krauss, East Prairie, Mo.; Susie E. Ogborn, Charleston, Mo.; Mrs. Helen Garrett, East Prairie, Mo.; Mrs. Myrtle Barber, Hialeah, Fla.; and nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barnett went to Charleston Thursday afternoon to attend Mrs. Barnett's cousin's funeral, Mrs. Fannie Krauss. Mrs. G.W. Fenimore accompanied them.
